Week 2 Story: Turtle Tales
Turtle Tales
There once was a turtle names James who always tried to show off to his friends on how he was the fastest turtle.
“You can never beat me” James told his friend Max as they both were talking about the race
Max was tired of always loosing to James, day after day Max continued to lose to James no matter how much he tried.
“How are you so much faster than me?” Max asked James.
“I was just born like this, you can try to beat me but we all know you can’t” James said with a smirk
It wasn’t that James was any bigger or smaller than Max, they were the same age and they were even the same size.
Max had been practicing everyday trying to be faster than the day before.
It had been a week since they last raced, Max felt like he could beat James today. He said “ Today I will finally be faster”
James and Max raced again, this time Max feeling more prepared than he ever was. The race was the usual track, from the lake to the farm. They started to race
‘On your mark, get set, GO!’ said their friend, a bunny rabbit who had always been the one to make sure the race was fair. Bunny rabbit thought that today was just going to be like every other day where James, the turtle will beat Max.
James and Max were both going as fast as they could, Max was just a little faster than James but still he had the potential to beat James. He continued to be in front of James and when he looked back and saw James had stopped. The caring friend that Max had always been, went back to see why James wasn’t moving along the race.
“why aren’t you moving?” Max asked James.
James then acted like he hurt his foot and pushed Max further back and started to walk fast, leaving Max behind. Knowing that James lied even after Max was only being a caring friend to James the whole time, Max ran faster and faster. Not to long later, Max finally caught up to James, beating him by a close second.
“I won, I finally won, even after you tried to trick me into thinking you are hurt. If you had won today, I would have felt like I truly won because I was playing honestly unlike you James” said Max.
James apologized after realizing he was wrong for what he did.
You know what they say ‘Honesty is the best policy’.

I chose to change the main character in this story to a turtle rather than a rabbit and added the concept of running a race rather than running because the earth is breaking up. I also kept the same type of characters such as animals. The end message was also different.

Oh what fun, Pranali: this is the first new STORY of the semester! The idea of a turtle race is such a cute idea... I like the idea of lake turtles having races when we are not looking. We might not even realize it is a race if we were to see the turtles, ha ha. I also really like the contrast between the turtles and their (slow) race with the fast and furious running through the jungle by the rabbits and all the other animals in the story you started from! Your story is really different from the original, and that is a great example of what a story can free your mind to create a new story: you might keep a lot of the original, or you might end up with something really different -- it all depends on the "what if?" questions you ask yourself, starting with "what if a turtle instead of a rabbit?" and then seeing where your imagination takes you. Yay!
ReplyDeleteI love this story. I think it's cute and I think that it's interesting that you leveled the playing field by making them both turtles. After reading this, my first thought was how it should be an animated short. Pixar would probably do a decent job ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Pranali, I really enjoyed this story! I think you did a great job of making Max seem so honest. It was pretty fun reading about his preparations for the race and it definitely felt difficult to not literally cheer for him. I think it is interesting that you decided to have it be a friendly race, that really makes James' trick seem more deceiving.
ReplyDeleteHey Pranali,
ReplyDeleteThis was a really great story and i loved getting to read it. Max was such a great character and it was really easy to be on his side for the race while on the other hand James' still pulled tricks when it was just a friendly race instead of a purely competitive one. With that being said, I would still be really competitive in something that was just for fun too.
Hey Pranali,
ReplyDeleteI actually used this story tale for my story as well! It was such a great tale to write about and I see that yours was a fun read! I can't believe Max tried to pull some crap like that.. You hate to see that. I'm glad James was able to pull off the win in the end!
