Reading Notes: Sita Sings the Blues Part B
Ramayana. Source. Sita Sings the Blues by Nina Paley (2008)
I want to focus on a particular character this assignment and that is Sita. She is the wife of Rama and someone she loves very much. She is a very interesting character. There are many things that happen throughout this story that help show her characteristics. She is a character that stayed pretty constant.
Sita is a true lover and support system for Rama because when he was sent to the forest for fourteen years, Sita decided to go to the forest with Rama. She was ready live any way possible just to live with Rama because she believes that a women’s place is right next to her husband. She is also kind of demanding, she wanted Rama to get the beautiful deer until he said yes. Because of this, Ravana got Sita but she was very smart, as she was going to Lanka, she started dropping her jewelry so then she can be found when people start looking for her. Even after she got kidnapped she even thought of Rama, she was very devoted to Rama. She was loyal to Rama, she didn’t just go with Ravana to be saved. She stuck by what she always believed. She had a lot of confidence in her husband and that is very great. Sita was loyal but Rama didn’t think so which is very unexpected. He didn’t believe her when she told him nothing happened. She said she rather die than Rama leave her for something like this. This just shows the way Rama was but Sita had stayed the same throughout. She even did the trial by fire to prove herself. Then after she still forgave him, she had true love for Rama all along and we even see that later on. She didn’t hold it against him for him not believing her and saying that she must have done something with Ravana.
